Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has officially announced a grand nationwide youth outreach program, “Run for Swadeshi” (Swadeshi Sankalp Run), scheduled for January 12, 2026. This massive event coincides with the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is celebrated annually as National Youth Day to honor his timeless messages of empowerment and nation-building.
The Mission Behind the Run
The primary objective of this initiative is to instill a sense of pride in Indian values and the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat among the younger generation. In a recent circular, AKTU’s Deputy Registrar, Dr. D.P. Singh, emphasized that the event aims to promote physical fitness, discipline, and the use of indigenous products. By participating in this run, students are encouraged to embrace the ideals of Swami Vivekananda while fostering teamwork and social responsibility.
Key Event Highlights
The “Run for Swadeshi” is not just about a race; it includes a variety of activities designed to engage and inspire the youth across all affiliated institutes:
-
Running Categories: Participants can choose from 2 km, 3 km, or 5 km distances based on local feasibility.
-
Motivational Sessions: The event will feature inspirational talks and activities focused on Swadeshi awareness.
-
Recognition: All participants will receive certificates to acknowledge their contribution to this national cause.
-
Broad Participation: The university has called for active involvement from NSS/NCC units, youth clubs, faculty members, and even the general public.
Guidelines for Affiliated Colleges
Following directives from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), AKTU has instructed all directors and principals of its affiliated colleges to ensure maximum student participation. The AICTE, through officials like Dr. N.H. Siddalinga Swamy and Prof. Shyama Rath, originally proposed this outreach to strengthen national unity and social cohesion.
Institutions are required to document the event and upload photographs and videos via a dedicated Google form for university records. This collaborative effort is seen as a vital step in spreading the message of patriotism and self-reliance among millions of students across Uttar Pradesh. As the countdown to January 12 begins, campuses are expected to transform into hubs of energy and national pride.
